“Friday the 13th” dominated the weekend box office despite opening on a Valentine’s Day weekend that typically caters to moviegoers opting for romance rather than slasher flicks.
The 1980 remake hauled in $42.2 million, easily holding off “He’s Just Not That Into You” which fell from the top spot down to number two with a $19.6 million take. Moviegoers made “Friday the 13th” the highest grossing horror debut of all time, passing 2004’s “The Grudge.”
“Taken” continued to draw in ticket sales, finishing third this weekend with another $19.3 million.
