It's Official! Neil Patrick Harris Will Host the Emmys

Neil Patrick Harris has officially been selected to host the Sept. 20 Emmy Awards on CBS. Harris currently stars in the CBS hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," which begins its fifth season in the fall.

"After having had such a hoot hosting the Tonys, I was thrilled to get the call about the Primetime Emmys," Harris said in a press release issued Monday. "I'm looking forward to the challenge of the show -- adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television.

In June, Neil Patrick Harris emceed the Tony Awards for CBS, he got great reviews. He closed the Tony Awards by singing a number written by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman ("Hairspray") sung to the tune of "Tonight."
