Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber have been targeted for an extortion plot. They have revealed they are caught in a blackmailing drama involving a photo of their then 7-year-old daughter Kaia.
According to TMZ, Edis Kayalar, an acquaintance of a terminated nanny of the couple, has a picture of their daughter in sexy, revealing clothes and bound to a chair and gagged.
Kayalar stole the photo from the nanny and said that it wanted to return it so it would not end up in the tabloids. He called Crawford and Gerber, and asked to meet Gerber at a bar to hand him the photo. He said he was "broke" and would like reward for his good deed.
When they met later, Kayalar refused to give the original copy of the photo and showed Gerber a copy on his cellular phone instead. The next day, Kayalar named his price, $1,000, saying it was for his trouble. He gave Gerber a hard copy of the photo.
But the alleged extortionist apparently still wanted more money for the photograph. He claimed he still has a copy. He originally asked for $100,000, but changed to 100,000 euros.
According to the couple, they had no knowledge of the photo in question until Kayalar called them the first time. They said that the nanny took the picture as part of a "cops and robbers" game and that they had never consented to it.
Kayalar has been charged with one count of extortion. The nanny has not been charged.
Crawford’s rep Annett Wolf released a statement saying the couple plans to “Pursue any and all available legal action against anyone who aids the perpetrator in the distribution or sale of the photograph of their daughter.”
