Hip hop goes to Carnegie Hall, brought by rapper Jay-Z with a good cause: to benefit the United Way. It has been announced that the rapper/mogul will host the first ever solo Hip Hop performance at Carnegie Hall on February 6 and 7, 2012. Jay-Z told the New York Times:
“There was a ton of blue-collar jobs that no longer exist, and the gap is wider than ever, and the kids need to really know that and be prepared. To really succeed in this new America they are going to need an education. Not everyone can be entertainers and hit the lottery – that’s what I call it.”
Ticket prices range from $500 to $2,500 and will be sold mostly to socialites and private philanthropists. Proceeds will benefit the United Way's scholarship program and also another program aimed at reducing high school dropout rate in New York, in addition to Jay-Z's Shawn Carter Foundation non-profit organization.
