Regis Philbin Quiting 'Live With Regis and Kelly' After 28 Years!
Regis Philbin made a sad announcement on Tuesday’s ‘Live With Regis and Kelly’ – the 79-year-old revealed he has decided to leave the show after the current season wraps up later this year. Philbin, who will turn 80 in August, has co-hosted the show for 28 years.
"It's been a long time, it's been 28 years since I've been here. And it was the biggest thrill of my life,” he said. "Everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people."
The show originally began in 1983 as a local broadcast in NYC. Philbin co-hosted ‘The Morning Show’ with Cyndy Garvey until 1985 when Garvey was replaced by Kathie Lee Gifford. The show was renamed 'Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.’ Gifford left in 2000. Philbin hosted the show alone until Kelly Ripa joined in 2001 and it was renamed “Live With Regis and Kelly.”
The date of Philbin’s last show has not been determined. It is also unclear who will replace him.
